A final round of one under 69 has seen Nathan finish in a share of
9th place at the US Bank Championship, the US104,000 taking his
season's earnings to US1.33 million.
Nathan started the
last day in fifth place and five behind the leader and eventual winner
Corey Pavin and made a good start with birdies at the 5th and 6th holes
to be at fourteen under and within four.
The ninth hole
would prove to be costly. After his tee shot had him perfectly set up
for a short pitch to perhaps go to three under and within three, he hit
an awful pitch from 93 yards which found the bunker and the eventual
bogey saw him slip back.
Nathan grabbed that shot back at
the par five 16th but then bogeyed the 17th to remain at thirteen
under. There were several players on 13 under and so a birdie at the
last was potentially worth a lot of money. Nathan's drive along the
left hand side just failed to get back on the fairway and from there he
could only lay up. He hit a poor pitch again from 115 yards and could
only get it to 30 feet from the hole.
He did manage to
two putt for his round of 69 but it was a day that could well have been
a lot better. Still he has recorded his fifth top ten of the year and
as he heads across to the Buick Open at Warwick Hills in Michigan for
this week's event, he is bouyed by the fact that he continues to
perform well.
