Horror hole costs Nathan something special Print E-mail

Nathan has bowed out of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs after finishing 53rd at the BMW Championship at Cog Hill this week. A final round of 70 was a good solid final round but it was one that might have been just so much better if not for a quintuple bogey 9 at the par four 18th which was his 9th hole of the day.

Nathan made a good solid start to the day and was three under for his round as he walked to the tee for his 9th hole of the day. Two birdies, an eagle and a bogey to that point had him on track for a much improved round but disaster would strike at his 9th.

A wild drive there cost him a penalty stroke but the trouble was only just beginning. He played his third back onto the fairway but then found the water left of the green and so another penalty shot would follow. After taking a drop Nathan missed the green with his 6th and then chipped to 25 feet and two putted.

To his credit Nathan was able to rally back with an inward nine of 32 and the round of 70. Despite his misadventure only 14 of the field of 68 had better rounds than Nathan today.

Nathan earns US$17,500 for his week's prizeoney but takes away an additional US$110,000 in Fed Ex Cup bonus money.

Nathan has not yet decided his next event but he has at least a two week break before the next event for which he would be eligible, theTurning Stone Resort Championship in New York.
