Nathan has bowed out of the Players Championship after his third round of 76 left him one shot outside those who earned the right to play the final round.
The recently introduced MDF category was put in place to control the size of final day fields at PGA Tour events and although Nathan made the 36 hole cut he will not get a chance to advance his cause on Sunday.
On a firm and fast layout Nathan started the day well enough but a double bogey at the 6th when he took four to get down from the edge of the green had him on the back foot and although he birdied the 9th to reach the turn in 37 he dropped three shots on the way in to finish with 76.
Nathan is at this stage entered to play next week's Valero Texas Open in San Antonio
