A horror start to his second round at the Deutsche Bank Championship cost Nathan the chance to progress to the final two rounds and potentially may have cost him a place in next week's BMW Championship.
Nathan is presently in 67th position on the Fed Ex Cup projected points list and much will depend on those around him and who have made the cut this week perform over the final two rounds as to whether he is on his way to Chicago or not.
Nathan was in trouble early today after a double bogey at his first hole (the 10th) when he pulled his second into the water left. Three further dropped shots in the next four holes and the good work done in his opening round of 68 was all but gone.
Nathan fought his way back however and through 14 holes was on the cutline of 2 over par. A poor tee shot at the par three 8th or Nathan's penultimate hole would lead to a bogey and eventually cost him dearly. A 15 foot putt at his last hole would have given him a place in the field for the final two rounds but it was not to be.
"I played poor all week actually, said a disappointed Nathan after his round "It was an awful start today and gave myself too much work to do."
Nathan will not know his fate until the completion of this event and will wait in the north until his fate is sealed either way.
