Nathan has made a slow start at the Cialais Western Open and at one over 72 he finds himself in 81st place after round one.
Nathan started the day well with a birdie at the second hole from 15 feet and, despite a bogey at the 7th hole, when he was unable to get up and down at the par four, he turned in one under after two big shots at the long par five 9th saw him pick up his second birdie of the day.
The round began to unravel a little through the early stages of the back nine with three putt bogeys at 11th and 13th as well as a bogey at the 12th after finding the bunker at the par three.
At the 16th he claimed one back with a birdie from 8 feet and with an early tee time on day two he has the chance to make some progress.
The cut appears as if it will be around even par so Nathan knows exactly what he needs to do if he is to firstly make the weekend but also get back into the tournament. He faced a similar situatiion last week and eventually finished fourth.
